Focus On Your Strengths In Building Your Business

Focus On Your Strengths In Building Your Business

Focus On Your Strengths

Focus, say what??? So are you being pulled in 25 different directions? Forget about all of the different directions life is pulling you in. Today we’re just talking about the directions we’re pulled in as business owners.

We have to know the legal, business, social media, marketing, PR, accounting side of things, not to mention what we need to know about our own business. It gets really overwhelming. But when you’re doing “all of the things” are you going to focus on your strengths or the things that make you uncomfortable?

All the advice in the world

All the while, we’re getting advice like “you have to go LIVE on Facebook” or “host webinars!” or “you have to post on Instagram at least __x per day!” I see so many posts, webinars, and courses touting some definitive all-or-nothing approach to business.

Like if you don’t do this one exact thing, there’s no way you’ll succeed. Ha…is that what you want for YOUR business? It’s not what I want for mine!

Do you ever see something online — some statement or recommendation about the way you have to grow your business — and think “yuck! That really doesn’t speak to me.” Listen to your gut.

Maybe we don’t like Facebook or we’re not too thrilled about public speaking. Maybe we do much better with people in person than we do online, or vice versa.

But what if we focused on our strengths and exploited the crap out of them instead of forcing ourselves to do things in our business that don’t feel right? Don’t get me wrong here.

There’s plenty we have to do in business.

Not many people like legal or accounting — but we all know it’s a required part of being an entrepreneur (sorry!).

But I’m not talking about not liking some of the tougher areas of being an entrepreneur. I’m talking about instead of doing things that don’t feel right or good to you, playing up your strengths. Playing up your strengths when it comes to marketing and finding new clients, giving presentations, or hosting giveaways.

What to do

Not a super techie person? Either hire out someone to build out your sales page when you can or focus on in-person marketing until you get more comfortable.

You don’t need to force something just because “everyone else” is doing it. Trust me — plenty of people have no idea this “online business” world exists, and they’re doing just fine.

Starting out in business

When I started my business, I felt like I needed to fit a certain mold I saw online in order to be successful. Post tons of pictures on Instagram of my perfectly arranged food, work out all the time wearing the perfect clothes and have killer hair and makeup. Or I felt like I needed to use certain language to sound like I fit a niche that didn’t speak to me and my journey. And if I wasn’t doing those things, I felt like my ‘weaknesses’ were being exploited. So yes, I hear you!

But what was I doing to play up my own strengths?! What about all of the things I liked that made me confident and who I am?

Yes, the Corporate World!

I reminded myself that when I was no longer in the corporate world, that there was a reason why I started my own business. One of them being that I wanted to be truer to myself and help others. I’m not being true to myself OR helping anyone else if I’m not sharing the most authentic version of myself. Either people like me for me and need my services, or they don’t. And that’s OK! I’m not for everyone. You’re not for everyone. But you’re not appealing to everyone, you’re appealing to people who have or want the same vision as you do. Remember that!

What I felt like I should do and look like, wasn’t me. I choose comfort over style and I post pictures I want to post. Instead, my strengths are real and I love helping women take steps to grow their businesses.

So that’s the real me.

I try to write like I speak, share parts of my personality here and there, and prioritize my strengths by connecting with real people. Not “fake” people like those in our current world. I could tell you stories but…

How are you focusing on your strengths in your business? What can you do to focus more on those, and less on the things that just don’t speak to you?

Business Tips for Summer Productivity

Business Tips for Summer Productivity

5 Great Business Tips for Summer

1) Develop An Organizational Business System

If you don’t already have an organizational system for your business, now is definitely the time to start. Different people work best with different systems, so, unfortunately, I can’t tell you which type to use. But, here’s a cool business tip for you.  Paper or Plastic – I mean Digital! lol  Some people like paper systems, because they can cross items off their list as they complete them. And some people like digital planners because they can send their lists to their phones, i-pads and have them on their computers.

Google Calendar can be a mix of both because you can set appointments online and then print out your calendar as well. You can also view it from your phone, and have reminders go off on your phone and computer too.

Personally, I like the feeling of crossing things off a to-do list, and I like to see them, so paper is what works for me. But like I said, everyone is different. Find what works for you and go with it! Here’s a FREE PAPER TO-DO LIST you can use if you like paper.

2) Start Planning

The first step in taking time off in your business is to start planning for it.  How much time do you need to take off?  You need to know how much work you need to do in advance so that your business doesn’t fall apart when you take the time off. This is such a great business tip.

Let’s say you want to plan for a two-week vacation. Well, if you blog 3 times per week, that’s 6 blog posts. You’ll also want to plan for your Twitter and Facebook status updates, as well as any promotions you are going to do before taking off on your vacation.

On the other hand, if you are going to be working a reduced schedule, you need to plan for that, as well. For example, if you normally work 20 hours per week within your business but need to cut it down to 10 hours per week in the summer, it’s time to figure out how much you need to do each week, so you can start working extra now to make up for it, and to make sure you schedule the most important tasks in your limited hours. This little business tip is GOLD!

When you figure out how much work will need to be done, don’t feel overwhelmed. We’re taking this one step at a time. You don’t have to do everything in one night.

Look at the big goal and work backward. Using the first example of someone who is going on a two-week vacation, let’s say you have four weeks before you leave. Well, if you wrote two extra blog posts for the next three weeks, you’d have the six you will need, plus one extra week to schedule your Twitter and Facebook updates to let people know when new posts are published.

3) Work Smarter

Now is the time to start working smarter, not harder. Like I said earlier, you can write posts now, and schedule them to publish later. I for one think this is an excellent business tip!

If the idea of writing extra blog posts gives you a big case of blogger’s block, start doing the following:

  • Reuse old content  – Take the content that is already on your blog and re-use it in a new way. Some examples include “Top 10 Lists,” where you list the links to some of the best tips you’ve previously written.  If you don’t write tips per se, you can still use that idea and just call it a “My Faves” post where you list the links to some of your favorite previous blog posts.
  • Get Readers to Create Content  – Get your readers to help you create some content! Ask a question and ask them to answer it!
  • Guest Posts  – Ask some of your favorite bloggers to guest post on your blog! You can ask them to write an original blog post or ask for permission to post one of the posts that was previously written on their blog.

4) Technology

When it comes to taking time off during the summer, technology is your best friend! All the major blogging platforms let you write posts now and schedule them in advance. Your email newsletter service should be the same way.  It would be impossible for me to know the facts on every single service out there, but all the ones that I know allow you to create your newsletter now and send it later.

HootSuite (https://www.hootsuite.com/) allows you to schedule social network updates, such as Twitter and Facebook. I use the free version, and it works just fine! Once you schedule your blog post and have the link for it, you can sign in to HootSuite and schedule an update with the post title and link on the publish date. It’s like you are right there, publishing it live at your computer, even though you are out on your vacation!

5) Delegate

Delegating can be hard. Really hard. It’s kind of funny – you start a business because you want to be your own boss, but it can be really hard to start bossing other people around. Doing that requires letting go – and your business is a lot like your baby and putting that “baby” into someone else’s hands can cause you lots of anxiety and worry.

But eventually, you’re going to have to learn to trust, and start letting go…

You can let go in small steps. Let someone write your newsletter. Get someone else to answer your customer service questions. Have someone else post your items to your Etsy shop… Let someone else do what you are comfortable with. When the world doesn’t fall apart, let them do another task. It all depends on what your goals are.

So, where are you supposed to find these people? Well, you can hire one. Look online for a virtual assistant. You can go to sites like elance.com and guru.com, where you can post your job opening, and qualified people can “bid” on it.

These people will tell you how much they would charge you to take on the job. Now, don’t just pick the cheapest one. Look at their past work references! Just because it’s “cheap” doesn’t mean it’s good, and just because it’s “expensive” doesn’t mean it’s the best choice. Look at their past work and let that be your guide. Of course, you can also send a shout-out through Twitter or Facebook and see if any of your “friends” are interested in a side gig.

Another option is to find an intern. In most cases, interns do not get paid, but they should be learning something. So, you might be working with someone who has never used Twitter before. That’s okay. You can teach them! Yes, it will take more time, but you are getting work done for free, so you’re going to have to trade some time for that exchange. There are so many virtual assistants in the marketplace these days that will jump at the chance to be an intern. You can offer a testimonial for them to include on their website in exchange for the work they provide to you. Such a great idea!

Mind – How to Change Yours

Mind – How to Change Yours

How to Change Your Mind

When it comes to changing your mind, do you view that as a negative? Huhhh? In other words, do you have the perception of someone changing his or her mind as being indecisive or weak? Well, there are several reasons why changing your mind can, in fact, be a positive event.

From childhood, there are many stories we tell ourselves as we absorb the environment around us. For some of us, we might believe that our siblings are older, wiser, and smarter and that we simply cannot match up with their intelligence. For others, there may be a mindset of living small because every time we did not succeed we were praised and accepted anyhow instead of encouraged and motivated to do better. Doing better may have somehow been viewed and interpreted as wrong and unaccepting. Did this happen to you?

We all want our children to succeed and, as such, we may or may not set the bar too low and not encourage a growth mindset. We may instill in them that they are set in their ways and there is no chance for growth, and by the way, we do this inadvertently.

Labels

Sometimes we are given labels and, all too often, we have no clue that we do not have to accept or even identify with those labels. We may be taught that Johnny is the math genius while Suzy is the musician in the family – a limiting mindset that is more or less fixed. Did you know that you could change those labels by working harder to be whatever it is you wish to be in the world of academics? How is this possible?

How YOU can fix this:

* Start with recognizing that you are capable and have the ability to change your mindset. This is the first step in changing your mind.
* Recognize that you can change your label at any time. All you have to do is choose to do so.
* Next, it’s time to get to work. No change comes without work involved.

Practices to Take on

If you are a parent, there are certain steps you can take in order to facilitate a growth mindset. Start by giving your child a way and a means to reach higher goals rather than labeling them as “not good in math,” or “better in art.”

* Don’t set the bar too high, as unrealistic expectations and goals are not beneficial.

* Don’t set the bar too low so that no challenge or growth is initiated.

* Offer constructive criticism in order to have your child reach and grow, which sends the message that they are most certainly capable of doing great things as long as they choose to. A growth mindset is for everyone.

If you are a teacher or mentor, it is better to facilitate growth by motivating rather than labeling or viewing your student or athlete as someone who is, “not as good as” someone else or “not as talented in a certain area or skill.”

* Consider each member of the team as an individual. Seek to discover their weaknesses. In this manner, you can then concentrate on how to challenge them.
* Challenge them to reach greater heights by motivating rather than considering them to be “as is” in any arena.
* Give them the belief that they can and will work hard to achieve greater results; that they can be stretched to grow.

When it comes to changing your mind, you have a choice. Face the areas of your life that are your weakest; avoidance doesn’t work, work hard in that area to excel, and never stop learning.

So, how does this relate to business? It’s all about your mindset and how you focus on your dream. Things from your past WILL come up in your TODAY. Learn to deal with it, put it in the PAST where it belongs and focus on the FUTURE! Yours and your business!

Top 6 Tips for Building a Relationship

Top 6 Tips for Building a Relationship

Tips for Building Relationships

There are some things we can do in all our relationships to build and maintain strong bonds. This is true because, underneath all our differences, likes, dislikes, and biases, we are all human beings who desire social connections. The tips below should be used in all your relationships to form bonds that will stand the test of time. So, how do you start building a relationship?

How to Build the Ultimate Relationship:

1) Be appreciative

This might mean different things in different relationships, but the overarching sentiment is the same. When they do something kind for you or take the time to support you when you need it, be appreciative – acknowledge their care and concern.

2) Spend time together

It can be hard to find time to get together when we are all so busy, but it’s important for all relationships. If necessary, set up a standing appointment so that it just automatically happens. This makes sure it happens because you will get used to scheduling other things around it.

3) Communicate honestly

Sometimes you may be tempted to bend the truth to avoid conflict, but your relationships will be much healthier overall if honesty is held in high regard. It’s possible, to be honest without being brutal. Choose your words carefully and be as diplomatic as possible, while still sharing your feelings openly and honestly.

4) Forgive faults

Forgive them for their eccentricities and annoying habits, and also forgive yourself for any mistakes you make. We all have faults and shortcomings that we bring with us into any relationship. Sometimes to keep the relationship strong, we need to just come to the conclusion that their presence in our lives is more important than the little habits that drive us crazy.

5) Support them

Intermingled between all the good times, there will surely be times when the other person could use a helping hand. Whether it’s helping them move, taking them dinner when a loved one has passed or being a sounding board for a difficult decision, any relationship worth having requires some TLC. And the other person deserves it, just as you do when you need it from them.

6) Do unto others

It’s just a good idea to always live by the Golden Rule, but it’s especially true in relationships that are important to us. If you wonder if something you might do is likely to upset them, chances are it’s better to talk to them about it first. Wouldn’t you want them to do the same for you? It’s better to err on the side of caution.

So, there you have it. The 6 Tips for Building a Relationship. It’s not hard to do, you just need to do it, just like Nike says.  Honestly, here is my 2 cents worth. You can’t have a relationship unless you build it. And to build it, sometimes you have to listen to your instincts. Not everyone in the world is going to be your friend. That’s ok, you don’t NEED tons of friends. But you do need to have good relationships with those few that you really like. What’s the point anyway if it’s not a good relationship? Take the time to build them, appreciate them, find them. It will enrich your life so much.

And on that note, you can contact me anytime you need help in building your relationships. I also have a wonderful course on Relationship Marketing. You can access that here —> Relationship Marketing.

Purposeful Life – Do You Have This?

Purposeful Life – Do You Have This?

Living a Purposeful Life

Do you find that some days you wish you lived a different life? Boy, I hear you and that is a loaded question! Perhaps you find yourself wishing that you were Oprah, or Kim Kardashian or maybe Jennifer Aniston. It isn’t unusual to wish you lived a different life or were someone else. If you find that you have days where you feel unsatisfied or discontented, then it may be time to think about what you can do turn your life around. So, how do you live a Purposeful Life?

  • Find out what you’re really passionate about. Check out my free guide on how to create passion.
  • Dream about what you’d love to do, something that would make your heart soar. Try making a Dream Board.
  • Stop trying to be like someone else. Do you…always!

So tell me, what’s different about your life and that of those you admire and who inspire you? At first glance, it may be that you think it’s money or fame. Often you will look at what possessions they have or how much money is in their bank account. Instead look deeper and make a list of the qualities that you admire. It may be that you are inspired by their skills, knowledge, generosity or temperament. What is it for you?

Purposeful

What do they have that you don’t? They have passion and live a purposeful life. They have something that they care about and are filled with a desire to make a difference; not just for themselves but for others. Have you ever noticed that about the people you admire? You know, they don’t have to be famous. It could be your child’s teacher, a favorite store manager or even your next door neighbor.

Your life can be fulfilling. Living a life of passion and purpose is possible for everyone. You do not need to be rich, famous or highly educated. You only think you do! But, is that what you really think?

To find your passion and purpose you need to discover what you really want. Don’t just consider material objects, look deeper at lifestyle, relationships, your health, and emotions.

Passion

passion [pash-uh n] Spell Syllables Synonyms Examples Word Origin See more synonyms on Thesaurus.com noun 1. any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling, as love or hate. 2. strong amorous feeling or desire; love; ardor. 3. strong sexual desire; lust. 4. an instance or experience of strong love or sexual desire. 5. a person toward whom one feels strong love or sexual desire. 6. a strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for anything: a passion for music. 7. the object of such a fondness or desire: Accuracy became a passion with him.

For a positive difference to take place you don’t need to give up your job and follow your calling 100% of the time. You can start small and paint your masterpiece or write your novel in your spare time. This will allow you to begin to feel the benefits of doing what you love and feeling the positive effects and changes while still working and earning an income. Did you think about that? You can do both, so many people do.

Not everyone wants to change the world. It may be that you want to make a difference by volunteering at the local homeless shelter. Your desire to bring about positive change in the lives of others, less well off than yourself, will bring about an enormous change in your life. You will experience the joy of giving and in return feel a sense of satisfaction. In addition, you’ll probably pick up new skills, make new friends and connections and discover other changes you want to make in your own life.

Happiness and How to Achieve It

Happiness and How to Achieve It

How you can achieve real happiness – really? What is real happiness anyway? Let’s discuss this below.

Are you happy?

While you may answer yes, of course, I’m happy, consider the question further. Are you really happy? Does your life fill you with joy? Do you feel well? Are you excited by the thought of what each day holds? When considering happiness there are a lot of questions that can be asked. Perhaps one of the first ones you will think of is, ‘What is happiness?’

Happiness is a state of being. Positive psychologist Sonja Lyubomirsky describes happiness as a positive emotion that not only means you experience the emotions of well-being, joy, and contentment but these emotions are also “combined with a sense that one’s life is good, meaningful and worthwhile.”

happiness

So for you to experience real happiness it appears that you need to create a life with meaning. So does your life have meaning? Do you feel that it is worthwhile?  And If not, why not?

These are important questions to ask yourself about happiness

If you feel happy but your life is lacking something, then it may be that you aren’t experiencing a full state of real happiness. Creating change could take your life from mediocre to amazing and allow you to experience the full effects of real happiness.

So how can you create this “real happiness“?

Discover your passion and purpose. Make these an intrinsic part of your everyday life. If you’re wondering how to find them then take a piece of paper or notebook and answer the following questions. Do it now, before you forget!

  1. What do want to do with your life?
  2. How do you want to feel every day?
  3. What do you enjoy doing?

List those things that make you feel excited, creative, inspired and energized.

What are you good at?

List those things that make you feel creative, energized, inspired and that you lose yourself in when you are doing them.

What do you want your legacy to be?

  • When you think back on your life, what do you want to be remembered for?
  • Who are your role models? Why?
  • What are your big dreams and goals?
  • How can you achieve your big dreams and goals?
  • Who or what can help you change your life for the better?

As you answer the questions you will begin to find a pattern in your answers and recurrent themes. These can help you identify what you need to do and change to create real happiness in your life.

If you consider that your life needs to be worthwhile and meaningful as Lyubomirsky says, then you need to consider what you can do to create those in your own life. You need to find your passion and purpose. (Go ahead and check out the link, it’s to my Passion Planner Freebie) When you have found those and embedded them into your life then you will find “real happiness”.

Life – Give It Your Best – I Know You Can

Life – Give It Your Best – I Know You Can

Live your best life, huh? Doesn’t everyone?

Are you living your best life? Are you really? Do you think that you should be living the American Dream? It may be that you consider the best life as one with fame and fortune, perhaps with the addition of fast cars and globe-trotting. However, living your best life is not about the American Dream, fast cars, globe-trotting, fame, fortune or all that mumbo-jumbo JUNK! Yes, you heard me correctly there.

Because…

Your best life is about YOU living a life of happiness and success. While the specific elements of your best life will be different to someone else’s, there will be common threads. Yep… And what are those elements that will help you create and live your best life?

Here is a list of them:

Work/Life Balance

For most people, work is essential to earning an income. It’s used to provide a roof over their head and food on the table. Some people are lucky enough to have enough money that they don’t actually need to work. What did you say? Don’t HAVE to WORK? Well isn’t that nice?

Whether you do or don’t need to work is not the problem. The problem occurs when work takes over your life and you find that everything you do revolves around it. If you find that you spend too many hours working and not enough resting or socializing, then you are in for a BIG surprise.

Here’s what it comes down to:

First, it begins to negatively impact your life, then your health and then your precious relationships.

It’s important that you make sure that you have a work/life balance that allows you to enjoy time with family and friends, as well as outside interests to help you round out your life.

Goals

You know that goals are important, but do you set them? Tell me the right answer here, please. First, you need goals in your personal and business life, otherwise, you have NO direction. By having them you can create positive change.

If you’re drifting along and not feeling inspired, then now is the time to change that. Yes, because this will help to solve all the issues that you do have in your life.

Solve me these riddles ➡

  1. What do you want from life?
  2. What makes you feel excited or inspired?
  3. When you look back on your life what do you want to feel proud of?

Think about what you want and then write down the steps you can take to achieve it. It’s really not that hard. Just pick up a pen or pencil and a piece of paper. Go on…I’ll wait until you have them. Go now because I’m waiting!!  😉

Ok, now  ➡  ➡

What would your best life look and feel like? Use your imagination and dream a little. Got it?  ➡ NICE…

Relationships

Everyone needs relationships. Right? They provide connection and support. Look at the people in your life who don’t serve any purpose apart from annoyance or toxicity. By this I mean, consider all those who take your time, energy and positivity but give nothing in return apart from stress and anxiety.

Come on, I know you have some in your group. If you can remove them from your social circle, do it, NOW! If they don’t have the time or space for you in your life, they will no longer affect you negatively. But, and that’s a BIG BUT,  removing them completely isn’t possible, then plan ways to make sure that you can interact with them without negativity or feeling used. Because they will and you know this!

Why am I telling you this? Because you really don’t NEED them in your life so why have them?

life

Mihail_hukuna / Pixabay

You need to nurture and develop those relationships that bring you happiness, love, friendship, and support. Those relationships that involve give and take. These are the people you want to have a relationship with now, don’t you?

Here’s a good idea:

Consider hiring a life coach or a mentor to help you create yours. This could be one of the best investments and/or relationships you make in your life. Try it, what could it hurt?

Health

Everybody knows this. Your health is essential to having a great life. While you may have serious health issues you can manage them in a way that will enable you to create and live your best life. Make sure that you eat healthily and drink plenty of fluids. Regular exercise will help you with fitness and also get the endorphins (feel-good hormones) flowing. Talk to your doctor about scheduling an appointment to check out how you’re doing. I did this today, as a matter of fact. And so should you…come on now…it will only take a few minutes of your time to make that phone call.

Stop Talking about Your Goals Like They’re Dreams…Get ‘Em Done Instead

The other day, one of my business associates shared a free time calculator on their blog post. You can get this tool also! (get it here). Anyway, this tool will help you discover just how much time you have to pursue new goals and achieve those awesome things you’ve been putting off forever. So check it out…

Well, now that you know, you DO have the time to work on the things that matter to you, so let’s get to work on getting to those goals. Ok?

You’ve probably heard of S.M.A.R.T goals before…and that’s because it’s a formula that works.

Here’s an overview:

SPECIFIC – Your goal needs to be spelled out very precisely and you also need to have a reason WHY behind your goal. Some benefit or emotional attachment that will keep you focused. For example, a goal might be to earn $12,500 per month and onboard 5 new quality clients monthly in the next 90 days.

Using language that leaves no doubt as to what the goal is, why you want to achieve the goal, and how you will get there is very important. If you are not able to be detailed in your description of the goal, it will be hard to meet it. Take the time to do this part right.

MEASURABLE – This is where the Journal comes into play. It’s a report card and a method to measure what you want to accomplish and what you actually accomplished. If your goal cannot be quantified, then it’s not a full goal. By using this, you will know when you have succeeded. An example of a measurable goal would be “I want to deposit into our bank account an additional 100 dollars per week. I’ll accomplish this by writing five 500-word articles each week for a life coach.”

ACTIONABLE / ACHIEVABLE – There are different things that “A” can stand for, but it’s usually actionable or achievable. In order to achieve anything, you must take action. So, make your goal actionable.  Do something each day that will eventually result in an accomplished goal.

Goals should also be achievable, or you will quickly get frustrated. Be accurate about the time it takes to reach a goal, and what actions it takes to get there. Also, know who will be responsible for doing it.

REALISTIC / RELEVANT – “R” can stand for realistic or relevant, and both are important. If you want your goal to succeed, it should most certainly be realistic, or you will fail. If you’re currently making $500 a week and your goal is to increase that to $12,500 in 90 days, now that’s not realistic. However, you may be able to increase it by $300. Once you achieve that goal and are earning $800 a week, you can set a new goal to increase your income by another $500 a week or something similar.

Your goal should also be relevant to your life’s vision. It should also match your values. There’s no point in making or achieving goals that have no relevance to your long-term life goals. You could instead use that time to reach goals that get you one step closer to actually reaching your life goals. So always ask yourself, if the goal is relevant to your life goals.

TIME BOUND / TIMELY / TRACKABLE – Various authors refer to the “T” in the S.M.A.R.T. acronym as time-bound, timely or trackable. All of these t’s are important parts of the goal creating and setting process. If you don’t set a time limit and you can’t track what is happening, your goal will be hard to quantify or show as achieved. And isn’t that what it’s all about anyway? You decide!

Review The Simple Ways To Create And Plan For 2018

Review The Simple Ways To Create And Plan For 2018

Review the Simple Ways To Create and Plan For 2018

How to review your year:

When you first start to review your year, you’ll want to ask yourself certain questions. You can’t move forward without looking at where you came from, so it’s important to spend time reviewing 2017 in its entirety.

Definition

verb: to examine or assess (something) formally with the possibility or intention of instituting change if necessary.

Here is a list of questions to ask yourself:

  • What products/services did you create in 2017?
  • What do you want to do more of?
  • What do you want to do less of?
  • What worked?
  • What didn’t work?
  • What were you happiest doing?
  • What were your finances?
  • What stressed you out the most?
  • How do you feel about the last year overall?

These answers don’t have to necessarily be all business based. Maybe you want more freedom and you want to spend less time working. Maybe you want fewer clients so you can spend more time with your family.

There are no “right” answers to these questions, but you need to answer them honestly.

Create short-term and long-term goals

Now that you’ve reviewed your year, it’s time to start creating some short and long-term goals.

Start by creating your biggest goal first, because it will keep you accountable and give you something to strive for.

(For example, this year my long-term goal was to rebrand my website, so I signed up for a Beta Test and learned all about how to use the Divi Builder to create my new site.)

So, start with your long-term goal first. Then, break it down into short-term goals, doing it step by step. This will help you to achieve your long-term goal without the unnecessary stress.

Try doing it by each quarter as this might make more sense to you.

Your short and long-term goals may look different than others in your business circle. Remember that these are your goals, not your coaches, your partner or anyone else. The point is to think about the business you want to create and make sure your goals are in line with that.

Plan for next year

Planning for next year needs to happen in addition to creating an action plan, which I’ll discuss more about below.

Here are some questions to ask yourself as you’re dreaming up what your 2018 could look like:

  • What are your financial goals for your business?
  • What new products/services do you want to launch (if any)?
  • How will you reach your financial goals?
  • What can you do in the first 90 days to get closer to your goals?
  • How will you grow your audience in 2018 (blogging, YouTube, Facebook Lives, etc.)?
  • What marketing strategies will you focus on to promote your products/services?

Answering these questions is critical to your success as a business owner. As the saying goes, “failing to plan is planning to fail.”

If you need some extra help, don’t hesitate to contact me. I’d be more than happy to help you review your business with you and suggest some goals you might like to try.

Create an action plan for how you’ll achieve those goals

Now, this is where the magic happens. Nailing down your goals is a crucial step to reviewing your year, but if you don’t create an action plan for how you’ll achieve those goals then you won’t get very far.

If you want more Time Freedom in your life, you’re going to need to set up systems and processes for your business to run without you being attached to it. This is the simplest way to become successful.

This may mean investing in programs that help automate tasks. This could also mean you need to outsource some tasks so you can focus on what you do best.

Try to plan out your short-term goals in 90-day chunks. From there, create an action plan for each of those goals and what you need to do each week to move forward.

Creating an action plan will help you recognize the people and systems you’ll need to invest in to achieve your goals. Click To Tweet

If the people and systems you need to invest in gets to be too pricey for you, you may need to reconsider some of your goals you have.

Identify how you’ll measure the progress of these goals

What measurements will you use to check in on your progress for your short and long-term goals? Throughout the year, revisit your goals and see if you’re on track.

Sometimes you can make long-term goals and then realize halfway through the year that you need to change directions.

That’s completely alright! Really!

But, you need a process in place for you to continuously be revisiting your goals, checking in on your numbers, and revising what works and what doesn’t work so you can continue to move forward.

Planning for downtime

This is so necessary but often a step that’s overlooked when planning for the next year.

Please, leave downtime in your schedule

This means don’t overdo creating so many new product ideas in the first 90 days of the year that you collapse from exhaustion. Really, some people actually do this!

Give yourself a chance to breathe and not be doing, creating, giving, sharing every week of the year. You can increase your business without sacrificing your time and energy. Smart planning is critical to your health also.

Because life will happen. And some project will get pushed back or delayed for reasons out of your control. Or your kids will get sick. Or you’ll get sick. Again, because life will happen. There’s no escaping it, ya know?

You’ll appreciate the downtime in the future, so you can either catch up on work that was missed or take some time to relax and focus on refreshing your mind/body.

And…that’s WHY you need someone to help you with all the many things on your to-do list. Allow me to offer you some Time Freedom in YOUR Business!
